RYLA for 300 Balwadi teachers conducted along with Vanasthalee on 5th and 7th Nov was completed successfully. It was a very enriching experience and our eyes were moist when we finally had to say adieu to all those energetic and enthusiastic participants. A lot of members not only attended the project but contributed and volunteered wholeheartedly to all the activities that were scheduled for that day. RYLA was inaugurated by DGN Dr. Deepak Shikarpur and he won the hearts of all the women present when he said that he was a bit taken aback when he walked into a room full of women and realised that with this kind of women empowerment the time is not too far when the men will have to worry about their future!! This RYLA was a bit special as, by training and sensitising a teacher of Balwadi we were actually reaching out to all the students that she teaches and thus contributing to nation building in an indirect way! The day started by Convenor Vidula explaining the participants the concept of RYLA and our other Rotary Projects which we have done with the special focus on women. Dr Tanuja spoke about health, diet and illness and she was bombarded with questions. Vidula finally had to intervene; otherwise there was no room and time left for the next equally interesting speakers that were lined up. Dr Ujjwala as usual left the audience spell bound when she spoke in very simple language about the art and skill of communication and public speaking. The ability to make a complex subject look very simple is definitely her forte. "Sanskarache Moti " a very enlightening talk by Dr Shireesh Limaye was very well received as the bottom line was "Je dila jate te Shikshan ani je uchalle jate te Sanskar" A visit by DG Mohan before the lunch break was a bonus and his presence reinfused the energy amongst us. We all got geared up for the next session post lunch . The much awaited Rangoli and Ikebana demonstration by the creative ladies from our club and creativity then knew no boundaries. The attached photographs will speak for itself!! The results of the anaemia detection has not been very heartening as more that 50% women were found below an Hb count of 11 Dr Tanuja on the next day distributed iron tablets to the women and gave specific directions as to how they need to be consumed.
